Occupational Summary
An apprentice on the Investment Operations Specialist Level 4 apprenticeship, often titled Finance worker, works within the operational and administrative areas of firms that manage, consult on, trade and report investments. They process, register, report and value a wide range of increasingly complex financial instruments, execute investment transactions on behalf of retail and institutional clients and liaise with counterparties and end clients. Apprentices ensure accurate settlement, record-keeping and regulatory reporting across domestic and overseas markets and apply specialist skills to manage the high volumes of transactions handled daily by the UK financial services sector.
The apprenticeship contains a total of 13 knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs), is typically 18 months in duration and carries a maximum funding allocation of £9,000. End-point assessment is carried out using multiple methods and is assessed via professional discussion, portfolio of evidence, knowledge test and workplace observation.

Investment Operations Specialists work within the operational and administrative areas of businesses in the Financial Services sector that engage in investment management, investment consulting, trading and reporting activities. Millions of investment transactions are conducted within the UK Financial Services sector every day on behalf of institutional and retail clients, ranging from private individuals and small businesses to unit trusts, pension funds, charities, corporations and governments within the UK and overseas. The financial instruments and products are varied and increasingly complex, requiring specialist skill to ensure that they are efficiently processed, registered, reported and valued within the employing organisation, between counterparties and to end clients. Carrying out investment transactions on behalf of individuals or organisations.
